Lately, we've been getting alot of Christmas movies off Netflix and even buying a few at Walmart. Here are some of the Kelly family's favorites: 1. It's A Wonderful Life (Of course!) 2. Miracle on 34th Street (The original version) 4. A Christmas Story (My favorite Christmas comedy of all time) 5. The Polar Express (My favorite "new" Christmas movie... and no I didn't think the animation was creepy.) 6. A Christmas Carol (the one with George C. Scott and a gathering of the best British character actors to star in one film) 7. The Homecoming (the movie that launched the Waltons) 8. The Grinch Who Stole Christmas (The cartoon and the movie) 9. Elf (The only movie with Will Ferrell that I will actually sit through) 10. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas 11. Jingle All The Way (With Ah-nold) 12. The Santa Clause 1,2, & 3 (We just bought a box set of this at Walmart for $32.00... a real steal!) 13. A Charlie Brown Christmas (No, it's not actually a movie, but I've watched it all my life, so I had to include it.) So, what are some of your favorite holiday flicks? |

You've listed most of our favorites, Ron, with the exception of The Homecoming. The Santa Clause 3 was pretty disappointing. And I'm with you, Elf is the only Will Ferrell movie I like.
In addition to those, I'd add the 1951 A Christmas Carol, starring Alastair Sim (even better than the George C. Scott version, IMO; and both are tons better than the Patrick Stewart version, which I really looked forward to and really disliked when I finally saw it).
We also enjoy a couple of made-for-TV movies from the '90s: The Christmas List, starring Mimi Rogers, and Ebbie, starring Susan Lucci in a retelling of Carol.

Looks like they've pretty well been covered, IMO, except for RUDOLPH, & SANTA CLAUS IS COMING TO TOWN. THE HOMECOMING was a classic. I'm sure there are others, but I can't think of 'em right now. Never saw ELF, but TALLADEGA NIGHTS was hilarious. Pretty sure that's the only movie I've seen featuring Ferrell. He did a great George W. Bush on SNL, though. |

I remember The Homecoming as being very depressing....
You and your daughter need to see Elf. |

Elf makes me cry... I can't believe it but when Elf and his step brother become friends I just melt... |

Some of the classics have already been named so I'll throw one out there which I liked from 1988. How about Bill Murray in SCROOGED. - Rob |

This is a good time to respond to this thread (July), but one that I don't see listed is NATIONAL LAMPOON'S CHRISTMAS VACATION. That along with A CHRISTMAS STORY are required yearly viewings in that both are very funny and at times kind of sweet. |

Since Mark Has responded, and since I missed it the first time:
1. It's A Wonderful Life 2. A Charlie Brown Christmas 3. 3 Godfathers 4. Christmas In Connecticut 5. Miracle On 34th Street 6. The Bells of St. Mary's 7. The Bishop's Wife 8. Holiday Inn 9. White Christmas
Christmas brings out the sentimentalist in me. |

Great list. You listed 3 Godfathers! Fantastic movie. You know, I love John Wayne. 3 Godfathers, The Searchers, The Quiet Man...even True Grit and The Flying Leathernecks. Hondo. Rio Bravo. Wake of the Red Witch. Sands of Iwo Jima. I'm kinda partial to A Christmas Carol, both the book and the movie with Alastair Sim. And I like the musical with Albert Finney. |

I've found there are very few John Wayne movies that I can't re-watch over and over. 3 Godfathers is little know, it seems, but a very interesting movie. |
